These include the main archaeological site of Palaepaphos (Kouklia), the Chalcolithic site of Lempa, a number of museums, nature sites and trails. Visits can start from any site. | Start Point | Kouklia Village | | End Point | Aphrodite, Adonis and Fontana Amoroza Nature Trails | | Amathous Aphrodite Cultural Route | | The ancient city kingdom of Amathous on the Bay of Limassol was probably founded by Greek Mycenaean settlers in the 12th to the 11th centuries BC and was one of the most important kingdoms where Kyprida Aphrodite was celebrated. The ruins of the temple of Aphrodite can be seen at the main archaeological site of Amathous. The District Museum of Lemesos complements the visit with in-depth information about the celebrated goddess. The acropolis with the Sanctuary of Aphrodite has no official entrance. Visitors are asked to use the official entrance to the lower city site and walk up the stairs leading to the top of the acropolis. Situated in the western shores of Cyprus, villages such as Drouseia, Ineia, Kathikas, Pano and Kato Arodes invite you to visit their windswept vineyards. To get to know the Xynisteri, an indigenous grape variety that grows in a climate tempered by the sea breeze, offering cool yet solid wines with a fine aroma, most probably among the best white wines produced in Cyprus. These and other destinations of the route also invite you to sample the rare Maratheftiko, one of the best red wine varieties of Cyprus. | Start Point | Mesogi | | End Point | Polis | | Vouni Panagias - Ambelitis A Wine Route | | Panoramic excursion into a glorious inland landscape, accompanied by the delights of the locally produced wines. In the western part of the island, in the district of Pafos, at an altiutude over 800 metres, the route Vouni Panagias - Ambelitis offers an unparalled wine experience. The wineries are numerous, the diverse pleasures of equal magnitude. The local Xynisteri grape variety stands out once more, offering white wines of particular finesse in smell and lightness in body. A taste of green apples, peaches and apricots overflows from the glasses of the Xynisteriots of the area. Additionally, red fruit, violets and roses enrich the other local grape, Maratheftiko, which is also cultivated here. In the villages of this route and especially the Vouni Panagias, Chrysorrogiatissa and Statos - Agios Fotios, you will discover also some the best wines of the indigenous Mavro grape which benefits from the relatively high altitude and a mild climate, offering pleasant dark and rose wines. | Start Point | Mesogi | | End Point | Acheleia | |
